As part of the celebration of 1in6 Canada: The Nation’s Knowledge Centre for Male Sexual Trauma and Recovery, men and their families are welcome to come to our first Men of Courage Community Conference on men’s mental health and well-being. Join us for keynote speakers (including Frank O’Dea, founder of the Second Cup, Art Lockhart, founder of the Gatehouse of Toronto, and Rick Goodwin, Executive Director of The Men’s Project)), dedicated workshops (such as fathering, integrity, partners’ needs, sexual integrity, “Boys and Men Healing” film and discussion. Service providers are also welcome. There is also a dedicated psycho-educational stream for men who are interested in beginning their journey of recovery. Tickets are $50, and a number of scholarships are reserved for low income men. All details are at www.themensproject.ca.

Please join WINGS as we sponsor this amazing event featuring Daniel Blausey, an expert in the field of art therapy and childhood sexual abuse. This training will provide stark statistics, a clear and expansive definition of childhood sexual abuse of boys, and the correlation between sexual trauma and symptoms of trauma in adult men.
Mr. Blausey will expand on the recovery and healing process, the ramifications of myths, the role of the art therapist/psychotherapist, and therapeutic interventions for men seeking treatment. Interventions include integrating creative arts therapy techniques and mindfulness exercises to further enhance the healing process. An emphasis will be placed on educating participants on the necessary steps to enhance mindfulness and art therapy exercises into everyday life and gain practical art based practices for self-discovery and healing.
This experiential lecture has 4 primary objectives:
Identify a concise and inclusive definition of childhood sexual abuse of boys;
Describe the correlation between the experience of childhood sexual abuse and current symptoms of trauma;
Explain the recovery process and two therapeutic interventions utilizing art therapy techniques for men healing from childhood sexual abuse; and
Explain the recovery process and two therapeutic interventions utilizing mindfulness techniques for men healing from childhood sexual abuse.
Presenter:
Daniel Blausey, MA, LCAT, ATR-BC is a Boulder, CO based art therapist, artist, psychotherapist and founder of Studio Blue: Art + Psychotherapy, LLC. Previously working in New York City, Newark NJ, and Miami, Daniel successfully designed, implemented and directed several mental health programs. His NYC settings included GMHC/Gay Men's Health Crisis - the oldest AIDS service organization - and The Door, a premiere comprehensive youth agency. Since the mid 1990's Daniel's areas of clinical focus includes art therapy with adolescents and young adults, HIV/AIDS, childhood sexual abuse, adult sexual victimization, and the LGBTQ community. Daniel is currently a visiting instructor at Naropa Univeristy's Graduate School of Psychology in the Art Therapy concentration of the Transpersonal Counseling Psychology Degree Program.
